The TWAS-Sida PhD Scholarship Programme for Climate Research for students from LDCs has just been established in response to the need of increasing the base of expertise in climate research in Least Developed Countries, through a modern and complete PhD training programme. Under this scheme, TWAS has built a Portfolio of Host Supervisors including high-level climate experts. PhD scholarships can be awarded to promising candidates from LDCs who have obtained their MSc by December 2022, in an area relevant to the topic of climate change.

The TWAS Research Grants Programme for Collaborative Grants was established in response to the need of researchers in developing countries to link with each other in the context of interdisciplinary projects combining their skills and expertise. Under this scheme, grants are awarded to high-level scientists for interdisciplinary research projects. Each grant supports a collaborative project jointly carried out by two Principal Investigators (PIs) in the science-and-technology-lagging countries (S&TLC) identified by TWAS.

The recipients receive USD10,000 sponsored by Lenovo, a global leader in consumer, commercial, and enterprise technology that is the largest PC company in the world.

The subject rotates among various fields of science. The 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 awards recognized achievements respectively in the physical sciences; astronomy and cosmology; earth sciences; and mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
