Jan, Distinguished National Professor (Emeritus), University of Peshawar, and past President Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS), obtained MS (Oregon) and PhD (London) degrees. He carried out extensive investigations of Creto-Tertiary island arc terrains in Kohistan Himalaya, Balochistan, and Neoproterozoic granitoids of Pakistan. His studies are related mostly to geodynamic and crust-building processes, especially in collisional mountain belts and intra-oceanic island arcs that became Andean-type margins, and chemical petrology of chromites in ophiolites and magmatic arcs. He is author/editor of hundreds of papers and books, fellow/member of several academies and professional bodies, including the PAS, Islamic World Academy of Sciences and Mineralogical Society London. He has held several important positions nationally and internationally, including Vice Chancellor of three universities. Hussain is Ghulamali Hirji professor and former head of department of microbiology, Aga Khan University (AKU) in Karachi, Pakistan and is Professor Emeritus at AKU. She obtained her BSc (hons.) in 1966, MSc (microbiology) in 1967 at Karachi University, PhD (immunology) at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, in 1973, Fellow of The Royal College of Pathologist (1997). At NIH she did seminal work in identifying blocking antibodies to IgE responses in filariasis and received the best paper award by American Society of Nuclear Medicine. At AKU she did outstanding work on Immunology of Mycobacterial disease. Her work has led to the early diagnosis and pathogenesis of leprosy and tuberculosis for which she received TWAS prize in Basic Medical Sciences, Research Excellence award, AKU, National Honours, Tamghe-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Imtiaz, HEC National Distinguished Professor. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, PhD organic chemistry from Cambridge University (1968), has 1222 international publications in organic chemistry ( 245 books, 764 research publications, 80 international patents and 70 book chapters. He is the Editor-in-Chief of six European chemistry journals and Editor of "Studies in Natural Product Chemistry" (75 volumes, Elsevier). Awarded UNESCO Science Prize (1999), elected Fellow of prestigious Royal Society (UK)( 2006). Conferred honorary doctorate degrees by the Cambridge University (UK) (1987), Coventry University (UK) and Bradford University (UK). Nasim was president of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences. He obtained his PhD (biochemical genetics, 1966) at the University of Edinburgh. He was science advisor to the COMSTECH Secretariat; chairman, National Commission on Biotechnology (NCB), Pakistan; and founding president of Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA). His previous positions include senior research officer at the National Research Council of Canada and principal scientist of the Molecular Genetics Group at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia. His awards include: Pride of Performance in Molecular Genetics, President of Pakistan, and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in Molecular Genetics, Pakistan. Nadeem is a tenured professor in the Mathematics Department at Quaid-i-Azam University. He is an outstanding researcher and teacher, skilled in administrative duties. His research areas include peristaltic motion, blood flow through stenosis arteries, computational techniques, Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, stretching and shrinking phenomena, stagnation flows, and analytical techniques to solve highly nonlinear differential equations. The main area of Nadeem's work is applied mathematics. He has considered highly nonlinear physical problems of applied nature obtaining their exact, analytical, and numerical solutions. He is an expert in analytical and numerical techniques. Nadeem has published more than 700 research papers in international journals of high impact factor. His impact factor is greater than 2,000 and his citations are over 30,000. He has received many awards including Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Salam Prize, Best Young Researcher, Best Teacher, PAS Gold Medal, Raziuddin Gold Medal, PCST Awards, TWAS Young Affiliate, Fellow Pakistan Academy of Sciences, and Obada Prize, and has supervised 34 PhD and 120 Master of Philosophy Graduates.
