The Through Southern Lenses: Science in Focus Award, jointly organized by TWAS and Conrado Wessel Foundation (FCW) and, is now accepting submissions. This international award celebrates the power of photography to communicate science and its impact on society.
In an era of increasing scientific complexity and global challenges, effective science communication has never been more crucial. While scientific advancements accelerate at an unprecedented pace, the gap between scientific knowledge and public understanding continues to widen. This disconnect poses a significant challenge to progress, policy-making, and public engagement with critical global issues.
Photography offers a unique solution. With its ability to transcend language barriers and capture complex narratives in a single frame, photography can humanize scientific work, document key moments in discovery, and create emotional connections to concepts that shape our future. It can inspire younger generations and provide scientists with new tools for outreach.
