Lee received his B.S. degree from the National Taiwan University in 1959 and Doctorate from UC Berkeley in 1965. After working with Professor Mahan at Berkeley and Professor Herschbach at Harvard as a post-doctoral fellow, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago in 1968. He returned to Berkeley as Professor of Chemistry in 1974. He was University Professor and Principal Investigator at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, UC Berkeley, before he returned to Taiwan to serve as the President of Academia Sinica from 1994 to 2006, the highest ranking academic institution in Taiwan. He was elected President of the International Council for Science (ICSU) in 2008 and served from 2011 to 2014. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and Doctor Honoris Causa from 41 universities throughout the world.

Liao (PhD, Tokyo) is chair prof., Natl. Taiwan Ocean U. and Natl. Pingtung U. of Sci. and Techn., as well as vis. dist. chair, Natl. Cheng Kung U. He returned to Taiwan (1968) as res. fellow, Rockefeller Fndn., then served as dir., Tungkang Marine Lab. (1969-87), dir. gen., Taiwan Fisheries Res. Inst. (1987-02), Pres., Asian Fisheries Soc. Lee received a PhD degree from Caltech in 1975. He specializes in space and plasma physics. Before 1995, he performed research at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, U. of Maryland and U. of Alaska. Upon returning to Taiwan in 1995, Lee served as the Dean of the College of Science, National Cheng Kung U., Director of National Space Program Office, founding President of the Natl. Applied Research Laboratories, President of Natl. Central University, and Minister of National Science Council. He is a distinguished research fellow of the Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica. Lee's honours include the Fulbright Distinguished Scholar, the Presidential Science Prize in Taiwan, Academician of Academia Sinica, Elected Member of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and International Academy of Engineering, Russian Academy of Engineering (IAE).

Chang is Emeritus Scholar Chair of Natl. Synchrotron Radiation Res. Center (NSRRC) and honorary chair professor, Natl. Tsing Hua U. (NTHU) in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He obtained his PhD in 1975 at Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He was former director of NSRRC and former vice president (NTHU); president, Physical Society of R.O.C., director general (Natural Sciences), National Science Council; commission members IUPAP and IUCr. His honours include NSC Outstanding Research Award, Sun Yet San Academic Award, MOE Academic Award; Tung Yuan Award for Sci. and Tech.; B. E. Warren Diffraction Physics Award (Amer. Crystallogr. Assoc.); Ho Chin-Duei Outstanding Honorary Award. Member/Fellow: Academia Sinica; Asian Pacific Academy of Materials Science; American Physical Society; Physical Society of R.O.C.; national chair professor; chair, Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship.

Wong is professor of chemistry at Scripps Research Institute and National Taiwan U. and past president of Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan (2006-16). He received his BS and MS from National Taiwan University, and PhD (chemistry, 1982) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He taught at Texas A and M University for 6 years, then became professor and Ernest W. Hahn Chair in Chemistry at Scripps Research Institute (1989-2006) and director of the Genomics Research Center, Academia Sinica, Taipei (2003-2006). He is a member of Academia Sinica, Taipei, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and US National Academy of Sciences. His research interests are in bioorganic and synthetic chemistry and biocatalysis, including development of chemo-enzymatic, synthesis of complex carbohydrates, glycoproteins and small-molecule probes for the study of carbohydrate-mediated biological recognition.

Lee is chair professor at the Department of Applied Chemistry and Institute of Molecular Science, director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Science, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, and an adjunct research fellow of the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. He obtained his PhD in 1979 at UC Berkeley. He was professor at the Department of Chemistry, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. His prizes include National Chair Professor from Ministry of Education, APA Award (Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Association), Academic Achievement Award from the Ministry of Education, Excellent Research Awards from National Science Council. His memberships include fellow of the American Physical Society and Academician of Academia Sinica.

Yu is prof. at the Inst. of Molecular Bio., Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. She attained outstanding accomplishments in frontier research. She has unraveled sugar and oxygen deficiency signaling and gene regulation pathways, and discovered mechanisms underlying rice flooding tolerance. Yu was the first to succeed in Agrobacterium-mediated rice transformation. Based on this admirable development, she generated a large T-DNA inserted rice mutant population and established a database of flanking sequence tags. These resources offer great value in the functional genomics research of novel genes applicable for cereal crop improvement. Yu is a Fellow of the American Assoc. for the Advancement of Sci. (AAAS), won a Corresponding Member Award of the American Soc. of Plant Biologists (ASPB) and many major foreign and domestic awards, and has been elected as an Academician of Academia Sinica.

Liu has been a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Research Center for Environmental Changes, Academia Sinica, Taipei, China since 1999. He is the founding Director of the Center. Liu has made fundamental contributions in atmospheric chemistry, air pollution and climate change. He has published more than 160 papers which have received more than 6500 citations. He is one of the first few Chinese geoscientists in the prestigious ISI Highly Cited Researchers list. He was elected as an Academician of Academia Sinica in 2012. He was elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union in 1994. He is also a Fellow of the Chinese Meteorological Society. In addition, Liu served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres (JGR) from 1988 to 1991.

Liu is a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences, Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan. His work in reaction dynamics has led to new fundamental insights into the intricate details of elementary chemical reactions under crossed molecular beam conditions, including the first unambiguous observation of reactive or Feshbach resonances, the quantum state correlation of product pairs in a reactive event, the mode- and bond-selected reactivity of polyatomic reactants, and the stereo-control of bimolecular reactions. He is a member of Academia Sinica, a fellow of American Physical Society and Royal Society of Chemistry, the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award of the National Tsing Hua University, the First Presidential Science Prize of Taiwan, the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, and the R. B. Bernstein Award.
