Dr. Hu is currently Chair Professor of Mechanics with Beijing Institute of Technology, and Presidium Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He used to be President of Beijing Institute of Technology (2007-2017), President of Nanjing University of Aeronautics of Aeronautics (2001-2007), Professor of Mechanics with that university (1994-2007), and Humboldt Research Fellow with University of Stuttgart (1992-94). He has made recognized contributions to the nonlinear dynamics of vibration control systems, dynamics of carbon nano-systems, active flutter suppression of aircraft structures, and deployment dynamics of large space structures. He received State Award of Natural Sciences, China twice (2006, 2012), ASME Thomas Caughey Dynamics Medal, USA (2023), and ASCE Raymond Mindlin Medal, USA (2026). He has been Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2007), Honorary Doctor of Moscow State University (2015), Honorary Doctor of Science of University of Reading (2016), Honorary Member of Hungary Academy of Sciences (2022), and Foreign Member of Academia Europaea (2026).
