Biodata
Funmilola Oluwafemi is a chief scientific officer at the Nigerian Space Agency, National Space Research and Development Agency, Nigeria. Her research areas are space life sciences, gravitational biology, space biochemistry, and extreme isolated and confined environments research. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry (Bowen University), a Master of Science degree in membrane biochemistry and biotechnology (University of Ibadan), and a PhD in space biochemistry (Federal University Oye-Ekiti), all in Nigeria. She’s currently principal investigator and a leading expert of microgravity research, with the Space Life Sciences Division, NASRDA. She won simulated microgravity equipment called Clinostat from the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs in 2015. During her PhD she won four scholarships: Zonta Amelia Earhart Women in Aerospace 2022; African-German Network of Excellence in Science-Program Advocating Women in Science 2021; UNESCO International Centre for Biotechnology Nigeria 2021; and Climate, Food and Farming Global Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases Development Scholar 2021. She’s a United Nation’s Space and Global Health Network member.
