Gadagkar is Prof. & National Science Chair at Centre for Ecol. Scs., Ind. Inst. of Sc.(IISc), Hon. Prof., Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Adv. Sci. Res., Bangalore and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali, and Senior Fellow, Zukunftskolleg, Univ. of Konstanz, Germany. He has published over 400 research papers, articles & four books. His awards include TWAS award in Biology, SS Bhatnagar Prize, B.M. Birla Science Prize, Homi Bhabha Fellowship, B.P. Pal Natl. Envirmnt. Fellowship on Biodiversity, H. K. Firodia award, DSc (hc) of the University of Burdwan, West Bengal and Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Distinguished Animal Behaviorist Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Animal Behaviour by the Animal Behaviour Society, USA (2021).
