Farombi Ebenezer Olatunde

Farombi earned his PhD in biochemistry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he is now a professor and director of the molecular drug metabolism and toxicology laboratories. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, and the African Academy of Sciences. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Liverpool and a visiting scientist at the Institute of Food Safety and Toxicology in Copenhagen, Denmark. Farombi’s research addresses chemoprevention with phytochemicals. He has characterized Garcinia kola as a pharmacologically relevant chemopreventive agent, resulting in the patenting of four bioactive compounds with a translational role in the management of viral infections, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. Ranked as the No. 1 Nigerian toxicologist and among the top 2% of scientists worldwide for seven consecutive years, he was the recipient of the 2014 Society of Toxicology Global Senior Scholar Exchange Fellowship. He has published 350 scientific articles and has built intellectual capacity on the African continent through the supervision of more than 300 MSc and 30 PhD students.
