Prof. Adejuwon Adewale ADENEYE [MBBS, PhD, DSc (AM)] is a young Nigerian Scientist, Pharmacologist & Physician affiliated to the Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics & Toxicology, Lagos State University, Nigeria and specializing in Drug Discovery, Design & Development and Toxicology. He is actively involved in the discovery and development and evaluation of active novel therapeutic compounds from local medicinal plants used in the local management of diabetes mellitus, obesity and hyperlipidaemia. He has discovered a novel antihyperglycemic compound named erinidine, from an indigenous Nigerian medicinal plant, Hunteria umbellata. Recently, his research scope has widened into Functional Food in Health & Disease. He has over 80 research publications in reputable scientific journals, three chapter contributions in books and two published books. In 2013, he was awarded the Young Best Scientist National Award in the Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation category of the AU-TWAS National Award and nominated TWAS Young Affiliate. He is a Foundation Fellow, Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria (FAMeds) and Fellow, Nigerian Academy of Medicine (FAMed).
